Our mission is to help children from low-income families acquire the necessary skills in academics and social interaction to move successfully through grades K-12 and into adulthood. We do this by providing after school and summer programs which emphasize literacy and community involvement and use the talents of teachers, volunteer tutors, adult caregivers and a variety of local support services.

GECRC Volunteer of the Year

In honor of Ellen Weissbrodt, every year GECRC honors a Volunteer of the Year who does "small things with great love." This year's Volunter of the Year is Jane Pelletier. At our Volunteer Appreciation party, students shared why they love Ms. Jane and we presented her with a gift membership to the Morton Arborteum.
This is Jane's 4th year at GECRC! She first came to us as a volunteer through People’s Resource Center for a story-telling project, and couldn’t stop coming back! She is an example of how to truly love each kid, embrace what is best in each of them in a way that truly demonstrates that they are cared for. This year she has come in twice a week with art and science projects to share with the kids.
Thank you Ms. Jane for doing small things with such great love.
